Youghaloween Spooktacular Festival
25th-27th October 2013, Youghal, Co. Cork
Set in the hauntingly beautiful medieval town of Youghal is a unique Halloween Festival. This is a festival which blends the old Celtic Pagan ways of celebrating Halloween with the new. The town of Youghal is steeped in legends and stories of Banshees, Witches, “Woman of the Water”, Ghosts, Knights Templers and much more. For the Halloween Festival all these stories have been brought back to “Life”. Are you brave enough to visit!
If Halloween is one of your favourite festivals then this is the town for you. A spooktacular line up of events for the Youghaloween festival, crammed into a haunted and fun filled three days. A huge variety of free events, with something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
Join us on Friday for an extraordinary opening ceremony. The ceremony will be opened by a gathering of witches on the beach. This will be an ancient ceremony that would have been performed long ago to celebrate Samhain - the end of the year and the beginning of the new, and also to remember those who have gone before us.
The beach will have fires lighting on it to create that otherworldly atmosphere, and there will also be drumming. When the ceremony is finished the witches will conjure up “An Bhean Usice” who will be brought in by boat by "The Ferryman" and The Knights Templar. She comes out of her watery grave once a year to collect the hopes, dreams, and wishes of the people from Youghal. She is then paraded through the streets where everyone joins in a lantern parade.
Saturday visit the Haunted Town Centre. Wander through the terrifying and eerie graveyard, avoid the cackling witches and ghoulish knights as they work their ghastly torture machines. Don't get caught up in the big spiders web! Come and visit fortune tellers corner. Check out the funeral pyre. Pay your respects to the dead by lighting candles and incense sticks. Visit the Bhean Usice and leave a wish so that she can bring it back out to sea with her for the closing ceremony. Walk the ancient labyrinth and find inner peace.
Don’t forget you have a wedding to attend! Yes the Zombies are getting married under the historic clock gate “Til death do them part”. Not to be missed, but bring your own finger food!
Take part in a grave robbers trial…..you decide if they are guilty or not!
Ghosts tours will be held during the weekend and you may bump into a ghost or two! There will also be story telling for the kids and treasure hunts.
There will also be a historical event called "The Gathering of the Abbeys". This is the story of the Abbeys in Youghal and there connection with each other done through poetry, song and stories.
Sunday there will be a Spiritual Convention. A day of workshops and talks to feed your spirit. There will also be a unique and alternative market. Come along and meet the Cork paranormal investigators, have your tarot and angel cards read. See what alternative medicine is all about.
A Halloween Parade through Youghal on Sunday just cannot be missed, followed by the children's Spooky Halloween Party.
Join us for the magical closing ceremony as it is then time to say farewell to An Bhean Usice as she makes her way back to the underworld with your hopes, wishes and dreams where she will work on these for the year! An Bhean Usice will leave the Spiritual Convention and will be carried brought back to the beach by the Knights Templar lead by a procession of drummers. The beach will have a pathway made down to the water with candles, where she will wait for the ferryman to come and take her back to the underworld. The story of the Bhean Usice will be told as she waits for the boat, and as she is brought back out to sea the Lonesome boatman will be played on the flute.
That is just a selection of family fun events and haunted activities that are available if you are brave enough to venture to Youghal Co. Cork for Ireland's most unique Halloween Festival, the Youghaloween Spooktacular .
