Spice Mas in Grenada West Indies (August)

Official date is the second weekend in August in Grenada 12' North of the Equator, but Grenada's Carnival starts with several evening shows at the National Stadium.

The first is a Soca show on the Wednesday before, followed by beauty pagent the next night, then the most popular show, the Soca Monarch Finals on Friday night. On Saturday night there is a Steel band competition known as Panorama. The most popular all day fete is the Rotary Club all day Sunday fete at Port Louis Marina' The DeMarche Gras show on Sunday night continues into Jab jabs on Monday early morning and old mass lots of body paint and songs by Talpri, followed in the afternoon by pretty mass pagent.

By far the largest parade and most popular mass activity is Monday night mass, with huge bands on the road with flashing lights and glowing costumes. Last lap is on Tuesday when there is a parade of the fancy bands in the streets.

Grenada's carnival is known to be safe and full of fun. All the activities are centered around the harbour in St George's with great views , though revelry continues in the outer parishes. What's nice is that you can access the beach which is only two miles away from the town centre where all the action is, and recharge your batteries or have rests on famous Grand Anse Beach, meet up with friends and also make new ones.

Good liming spots to see the parade includes Tropicana Inn. A great costume band to play in is Summer Crew. The best fete is the Rotary all day one. The best disco is Fantazia - best show is Soca Monarch - endless music and jamming and wining.

Extend the party, start the weekend before carnival, by going to Carriacou Regatta in the Grenadines (Carriacou is Grenada's sister island)- lots of sailing using boats made locally and raced by the fishermen:- liming on the beach and at fetes on the island throughout the weekend. Endless Carib and Heineken Beers! Two extended weekends of fun and music!
