Santa Fe Marimba Festival

Come and experience the music of the marimba in beautiful Santa Fe! The Santa Fe Marimba Festival takes place June 6-9, 2012. Nine international artists headline this event, and will perform in a variety of venues, from concert hall to workshops to street busking. The streets of Santa Fe will be filled with music!

Artists include:

• Dave Samuels of the Caribbean Jazz Project and Spyro Gyra who will play with David Friedman in their award-winning duo of vibes and marimba, Double Image

• Japanese marimbist Nanae Mimura, who will play the US premiere of “Bird Rhythmics” in concert with the Santa Fe Symphony and Chorus

• Valerie Naranjo, “World Percussionist of the Year” in 2005 and 2008, also performing a number of world premieres with the Santa Fe Symphony and Chorus

• Marimba virtuoso Ivana Bilic of Croatia

• Kevin Bobo, an internationally acclaimed marimbist now at Indiana University

• Pius Cheung, a master soloist and educator

• Composer, educator and consummate marimba artist Gordon Stout, currently Professor of Percussion at Ithaca College

• Chin Cheng Lin, a gifted artist who will perform a piece specially commissioned for the marimba festival with the Santa Fe Symphony and Chorus

• Ludwig Albert, Belgium’s premier marimbist and composer, performing with Chin Cheng Lin and the Santa Fe Symphony and Chorus

Workshop venues will be at the New Mexico School for the Arts. Concerts will be held at the St. Frances Auditorium and the Lensic Theater in downtown Santa Fe. Entry as a workshop participant includes tickets to all concerts as well as the twice-a-day workshops held Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

(Lunch is also provided to workshop participants.) One day passes to the workshops are available. Tickets to each concert are also avaible individually.
