When & Where The Pirate Festival is the first two weekend in May in Lake Charles, Louisianna. This scurvious festival draws more then 100,000 landlubbers each year.
What to expect Wooden legs, sea dogs, eye patches, treasure "arrrr" jokes, rum. But seriously expect tasty cajun Southern cook-offs, concerts, walk the plank and other funny events, belly dancing. The weekends are great fun as most of the town are in great fancy dress outfits and shennanigans get underway...

History It began as a pirates festival in the 1950's however its roots are from Jean Lafitte and his bucanneers who fled to Lake Charles to escape capture. His hideaway and now grave was called Contraband Bayou. Legend says that he is buried there with his last hoist of silver and gold. Maybe it's all just a sea tale.
