January 19th 2013, Penang, Malaysia A Japanese Style Mardi Gras Street dancing with ASEAN Carnival at Penang's seafront, the Esplanade. Penang is one of Asia's newest UNESCO Heritage City and it celebrating it's 5th year in 2013!
To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Japan-ASEAN Exchange, this inaugural event celebrates ASEAN cultures through street dancing. A "Little Japan in Penang" carnival with food, geisha girls, kid's ninja castle and many exciting activities!
Yosakoi dancing is a Japanese street dance that originated in 1954 in the southern islands of Shikoku, and has become a huge festival throughout Japan due to its free-style, universal appeal. Children's teams, grandmother's team and of course adult teams participate with their own choreography and costumes. The Penang Yosakoi Parade will also include floats, paraders, motorbikes and local beauty queens!
