Groundhog-Day

Groundhog-Day 2009

Ground hog day, Bill Murray & Phil

Ground Hog Day

When & Where Gound Hog Day is February 2nd each year in Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania USA.

What to expect 15,000 people gather to watch Punxsutawney Phil- Pennsylvania's Soothsaying rodent predict the weather. I hear you, how ? If Phil sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of Winter weather. If he does not see his shadow, there will be an early Spring. It's a marathon 3 day festival which finishes at the release of Phil.

Getting there You can fly into direct from most U.S. airports to Punxsutawney airport, or take a train to Punxsutawney. Where to stay There's lots of beds for Phil's mates, there's great Hostels in Punxsutawney available here and excellent Hotels available here.

Groundhog Day History

History Dating from Candlemas Day, Punxsutawney held its first Groundhog Day in the 1800s & the first official trek to Gobbler's Knob was made on February 2, 1887. Phil was named after King Phillip. He has never been wrong and it has always been the same groundhog since 1886! More recently it was the subject of an awesome Bill Murray ("It's Ground hog day, again") & Andie MacDowell movie.
