Gospel Rising Music Festival
by Fiona Walsh
Gospel Rising is a fun, energetic gospel music festival of workshops and gigs showcasing Ireland’s many gospel music styles.
This national roaming festival, supported by the Arts Council, showcases everything that is great in Irish gospel music, attracting choirs, spectators and workshop participants from all around Ireland. Following its major success last year, this is one to watch!
For one night only, Sat 7th May 2011, Portlaoise will host a spectacular free concert of all the greatest names and yet to be discovered gospel choirs from around Ireland, on the same stage! In previous years this has attracted a large following of travelling festival goers.
May 6th – 8th 2011 will see Portlaoise, Co. Laois host gospel workshops with internationally acclaimed facilitators, as well as the best on the Irish scene. Workshops on African choreography, soloist techniques and choral workshops on old style and new gospel music from the Elvis Parsley era to modern day pop! Nicki Brown, who has worked with the likes of Madonna and Craig David will share his expert knowledge in the all day band workshop on what tempos, beats and underlying tones create an awesome gospel sound.
Gospel music is a very vibrant and incredibly popular music genre in the fabric of Irish society today. Gospel Rising satisfies the hunger of experienced choirs and performers to expand their repertoire of skills, and also gives the general public a chance to experience great gospel music on Irish shores.
It will be one weekend of gospel rocking festival fun! www.gospelrising.com
