History ?

Hi My name is Marina Tamayo. I am a Producer/artist working in the entertainment industry for 34 years. I represent my Spanish Culture here in Australia by bringing together some of the most recognised and respected modern and traditional flamenco professionals, upcoming fusion, traditional artists and established international guest artists on the Australian stages.

My mission statement is: 'Flamenco Australia's purpose is to make engagement with Hispanic performing arts accessible to the Australian community. We will do this by providing people with the opportunity to participate in, support or to immerse themselves as part of an audience, in the vibrancy of our performances.'

I had been approached in mid 2010 by Lorena Cabezas, a local Flamenco dancer in Hobart. She spoke about her passion to bring Flamenco to Hobart. After some exciting discussions, we both worked together to present Hobart with a series of workshops and performances.
Our first Flamenco Festival in Hobart was held in 2011 November. It was self funded and was attended by an enthusiastic crowd. We are hoping to build on that interest by creating more workshops in Spanish Classical Guitar, Flamenco/Jazz Guitar, Percussion, Singing and Flamenco/Classical Spanish Dance styles throughout the weekend.
