When & Where The Darwin Beer Can Regatta falls the last Sunday July or first in August. That depends on the tide. Mindil beach, Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia.

What to Expect The Australia-Beer-Reggata has amazing looking floating objects. Most regulars to this event drink a lot of beer year-round and raise beer can regatta to an art form. There are other events such as the ladies dragon boat, The Battle of Mindil Chaos (flour bombs and water pistols), The Adult Boat Challenge (the main event) and a Thong Throwing Competition

History of Darwins Beer Regatta

In 1974 Cyclone Tracy hit Darwin on Christmas Eve. The beer can Regatta was created to recycle and help the region recover. Apparently the workmen putting Darwin back together drank copious amounts of beer due to the heat and threw the cans into the street. The original Regatta of 1975 was created to get rid of these cans. All proceeds go to the local Lions Club.

Entry There is usually a cover charge to all the events for the Darwin Beer Regatta day. All proceeds go to the Darwin Lions Club.
