Volunteer in South Africa

Coffee Bay Beach

You will work educating local Xhosa children using learning aids, library books, media resources & sports equipment. We want people to assist rural schools and promote literacy, computer skills, extramural activities, arts and sports development.

Experience the magic of Africa and play a vital role in education and bridging the digital divide, while exploring and integrating with the ancient local customs and culture of the Xhosa people.

Mentoring Volunteer Project

Coffee Bay Computer Lab Between 2007 and 2008, computer labs were installed at several schools around Coffee Bay and Hole in the Wall on the Wild Coast of South Africa. Sponsored by Coza Cares (the .co.za registrars in South Africa) and the ISPA (Internet Service Providers Association), and installed by the non-profit organization, Netday; each lab comprises 20 networked PCs running as thin-clients, a Linux based Server, and a laser printer. Students and teachers have access to email and a blogging platform (Drupal and Moodle) as well as an off-line Wikipedia encyclopedia, most relevant content from The Gutenburg Library project, plus a host of other educational software resources.

Wild Coast Activities & Nature

Sub-tropical Coffee Bay is renowned for it's beautiful beaches, friendly Hole in the Wall locals and breathtaking sunsets. Located a five minute walk from Hole in the Wall set where jagged cliffs meet the Indian Ocean creating scores of charming unique beaches. Mkambati Nature reserve

Activities With scores of beaches and breaks to choose from Coffee Bay is a surfing experience to cherish. There is plenty of great scuba diving to be had especially in June for the Sardine Run. There are also plenty of opportunities to go fishing and horse-riding along the beaches.

Safari You are never far from a safari in South Africa especially along the Wild Coast. Nearby Makambati Nature Reserve is possibly the most beautiful and dreamlike area in South Africa where the waterfalls flow into the sea.

Animals The annual feeding frenzy that is the sardine run occurs along the wild coast. This is a must have experience for any scuba diver. Many different types of whales, dolphins and sharks pass along the coast.
