Sziget Festival 2011

Maybe the most exciting and unique performer of them all, a 7-time Grammy winner and a true American pop-icon is about to visit Hungary. Indeed, Prince will rule the main stage of Sziget Festival on Day 0 (9 August) and play the biggest hits of his long and unstoppable career.

Sziget’s Main Stage will host Prince Roger Nelson, the legend who entered the rock’n’roll hall of fame by the name Prince. Being in the spotlights since 1976, selling over 100 million records, reaching 10 platinum releases and also earning several Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe and even an Oscar, here he is to give all he got for Sziget fans from all over the world. You can already start to get ready for hits like ’Purple Rain’, ’Kiss’, ’When Doves Cry’, ’1999’ and so much more.

When & Where The Sziget Festival Hungary occurs every for five days mid-August from a Wednesday-Monday on Obudai Island in Budapest, Hungary.

New in 2011 The rock-metal tent will be a huge rock-metal open-air stage.

The Party Arena tent (mainstream electro venue) will be about 30% bigger, so it will grow to a mega party tent.

A new open-air stage named Europe Stage, for new upcoming European talents, breaking markets in their own countries

Roma Tent will celebrate its 10th birthday this year, so it will include a bigger tent and a bigger stage + a very strong Balkan music program also featuring many great Central-Eastern European artists.
Meduza tent (underground electro venue) will recieve a totally new outfit/installation which is double as big as it was in the previous years.

A new venue called Eastern-European Travelling Funfair.

A new venue called Sziget Paradise, a venue all about love, health and happiness for mankind :)

What to expect There’s five stages covering current music, world music and dance music. There’s lots of stalls and theatre shows too- a market like Roskilde but in Sunny Budapest.

Budapest Sziget History

History: First edition: 1993 It all started as Students’ Island, a big gathering in a sort of ‘Woodstock’ atmosphere, only to realise that there is actually a great need for Central Europe to have a massive festival each year. So the organization got more and more professional and by now Sziget has grown into one of the biggest cultural events of Europe. And being in the center of the continent also means that it has probably become the most international festival, with participants from over 40 countries: a real meeting point for festival fans from all over the world.
