When & Where The Redeemer Festival Italy is a religious Festival which takes place in Venice, Italy. It usually takes place around the third weekend of July.
What to Expect This is Venices favourite festival. Even in the Regatta season this is the outright winner. The entire town loads onto their boats and celebrates , basking in St. Marks Basin with the Summer Sun beating down. As the sun sets the bars come alive and a firework display fills the skies. The following day there is a procession at Guidecca Island in the Redentore- try the temporary bridge made of boats, this is followed by a typical Venetian Regatta.
History This Italian festival is a tribute to Christ the Redeemer who answered the prayers of the Venetian Senate in 1577 and ceased the Plague that swept through the city. The plague lasted 2 years and killed over 70,000 Venetians. It fnished in 1577 and soon after the festivities began.
