Pisa Regatta St. Ranieri
Regata St Ranieri Pisa
When & Where The Pisa Regatta festival usually takes place on June 16th & 17th (more so the 17th :) at Palazzo Medici in the city of Pisa in the province of Tuscany in Italy. What to Expect There is a nice candle-light procession the evening before where thousands of candles are placed along bridges and in the River Arno. (Image from Giovithevet on Flickr)
The Regatta is a 1500 metre dash sprint up the river Arno on rowboats with teams of 10 men, there's only 4 competing teams who each represent the different districts in Pisa. The most difficult part is the end as a man on each vessel must climb up their boats mast in a bid for the paliotto (a flag). The winning team will receive Kudos compliments of St Raneiri and a plump farm animal.
