Galway-Oyster-Festival When & Where The Galway Oyster Festival is the last Thursday in September until the Sunday, in Galway in the West of Ireland.

This next Oyster festival in Galway is from from September 22nd-25th 2011.

Oyster Eating The World Oyster Opening Championship group stages are on Thursday night at 8pm. Only takes a few minutes. The winner must open 30 oysters in the quickest possible time.

Get to Eyre Square on Saturday. There is live music all day and the Oyster Pearl (loveliest girl) of the Festival will be crowned. There will also be street parades.

Galway Oyster Fest History The Galway Oyster Fest was born on the back of a promise. Local hotel owner swore to bring an Oyster Festival to the people. His agenda to celebrate the beginning of the oyster season. Perhaps to also extend the tourist season slightly ? In 1954 Galway held it’s first Oyster Festival.
