Float Festival Kyoto
When & Where The Float Festival Kyoto is an Asian festival which takes place on the 17th July in Shijo Dori in Kyoto, the Osaka Prefecture in Japan. It’s on for a few weeks but try to get there for the middle of July.
What to Expect Lots of Yamaboko floats paraded by Kimono sporting locals. These 10 ton floats take 40 people 5 days to build. They are then purified in the river befor the celebrations kick off.
The most reverred of locals is the boy-leader: Chigo is the star of the show and sits aloft the float with the town at his mercy !Getting there Book a flight into Kyoto or any airport in Japan here.

History of Gion Matsuri
