Fiesta Santo Tomas in Guatemala

Fiesta-Santo-Tomas-Guatemala

When & Where The Fiesta Santo Tomas is a South American festival which usually takes place during the third week of December in the town of Chicchicastenango (Also know as Chichi) in Guatemala: the festival lasts a week and ends on Saint Tomas day which is 21st December.

What to expect This Latin America festival has parades, traditional dances an scores of fireworks displays. The highlight of this festival is when locals scale a 100ft pole tied at the hands or ankles with a rope (to the pole). This occurs near Iglesia De Santo Tomas. This pole dance or Palo Volador as locals call it is death defying as many locals don't tie the rope to their body.

Getting there Book a flight into Guatemala airport here then try to take a train to Chichi (it's about 70kms away) here
