Europes Electronic Music Festivals
26th July 2010 20 people lost their lives due to overcrowding in a tunnel at loveparade. These people went to Duisburg to enjoy the music but lost their lives. We are devastated and there can be no justification for this sad day. Please sign our Book of Condolences Here. We have seen electro-music festivals in old mines, missile bases and in deserts and this is our TOP 10 of Europes Electronic Music Festivals. So we decided to pool our knowledge of Europe's best trance, techno, house and schranz music festivals. The biggest deciding factor in our top ten selection was the quality of Djs. However there were other important factors such as
1 Ticket price (free is better, right ?)
2 Location (accessibility & uniqueness)
3 Electrocentage (The % of the festival involving electro-music)

No.10 Zurich Street Parade (Switzerland)
 14th August 2010 Ok so someone had to be ranked 10th but this is no reflection on this excellent European street-party. This festival began in 1991 as a protest of a thousand people or so and now brings near a million people to the streets of Zurich in Switzerland.The best part of the parade is the backdrop of Zurich's marina as you cross the bridge with lots of beautiful boats which make this parade an amazing experience. Maybe this could feature higher on our list of European techno festivals if it was a little longer; the Zurich street parade begins at 1pm and finishes at 10pm, sadly it is only a one day affair. It is also very commercial but that guarantees that the event goes ahead and this is the type of organisation that the Loveparade could learn from. More on the Zurich Street Parade here..
No.9 Sonar 17th-19th June 2010  Lots of awesome Djs have rocked out in Spain at Barcelona's Sonar festival. The only way we could deduct points from Sonar was due to the diversity of the festival, its not only music but also theatre and street performance. Hence its not technically an electro street fest in the typical sense.It should be noted however the diversity of music and performance are what helped Sonar get recognised on this list. No.8 Monegros
17th July 2010 This Spanish festival began as a reunion of the patrons of Club Florida 135 and was first held in 1994. Today Monegros is one of the best events of the European electronic music calendar with around 40,000 people turning up to party hard from local towns like Lleida, Zaragoza and Huesca.
This desert festival focuses on providing electronic music artists who rock your body but it looses points on our top ten due to the hip-hop artists and international rap which play there (we acknowledge this is also great & necessary music but this is an electro-dance festival list :)
No.7 Norberg Festival 29th-31st July 2010
Located in an old mine in the Municipality in Västmanland County in Sweden, the 2 hour journey from Stockholm is justified as you bounce around a disused Iron mine which still contains rusty machinery, gantries and cranes. Founded in 1998 by Michael "ØSTERZ" Christiansen this festival is still an intimate gathering.2009 witnessed sets from Swedish electronica legend Andreas Tilliander and the British aficionado B12 as well as Syntjuntan who organised a workshop where you can sew (yep- sew) your own synthesiser. No.6 Love Family Park
4th July 2010 Celebrate 4th July in a different way in 2010 at Germany's Hanau’s Mainwiesen where the Love Family Park kicks off from 9am-10pm. Not convinced ? ok the word 'family' in a festival can be a turn-off but check out some previous world class Djs who performed there: Sven Vath, Underworld, Ricardo Villalobos, Deichkind, Turntablerocker, Loco Dice & Luciano.No.5 Lake Parade Geneva 10th July 2010  It's back to Switzerland for Geneva's Lake parade which begins around 2pm; a small house & techno festival and the best part of which is the official after-party; Lake Sensation which takes place Lake Geneva. Lake Sensation finishes around 3am. This electro-dance festival features around 150 Djs but only about 20 lovemobiles (the bloco's where Djs perform).This street-fest features a lot of Swiss and French Djs. Be sure to check out the Samba/ Brazilian lovemobile for awesome drum beats and latino house. Learn about Lake Parade Geneva here .. No.4 Fusion Festival
24th-27th June 2010 Also known as Фузион takes place in late June each year since 1997 on the former military airfield in Lärz (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) Germany and lasts four days. In 2009 60,000 electronica lovers attended. The concept of Fusion is 'holiday communism' which loosely translated means mutual tolerance and no advertising. The music menu includes all genres of electronic dance like techno, house, drum'n'bass, breakbeat, dub, trance & Goa as well as some randomness like Finnish tango and other live music. On May 17th 2010 there is an oppourtunity to buy/trade tickets at face value on the website.
No.3 Paris Techno Parade
 25th September 2010 In France for one day every year Paris is not the city of love. This September for one day only Paris will be the city of lust, funk, dance and all things electro. Join half a million people dancing through the streets of gay Paris following a line-up of world class techno Djs like David Guetta, Mark Knight, Dj Ufuk & Django. No.2 Love Parade24th July 2010
Ok we all are familiar with the loveparade and we know why we love it. The concept is almost sexual - born in Berlin 1989, months before the wall came down as a protest of 150 dancers to the then regime. It spawned to 1.6 million bodies bopping in Dortmund in 2008. It is political, it is in your face and it is the best because the best Djs in the world want to play there. Oh one other thing ...its free ;) True story the best electro-dance street festival in the world is free. Q. So if the parade is the best, why is it our number 2 ? A. You never know when it will go ahead and it is always an expedition. Al Gore got it wrong; this is the real inconvenient truth. Lovers of Electro music come from all over the world to this techno/trance/schranz fest and unfortunately it has been cancelled in Berlin in 2007 (but was held in Essen 2007 and Dortmund in 2008, Germany) and has since been cancelled in Bochum 2009. It is difficult to predict if it will go ahead so for the stress levels it places on people who want to be there we rate it as second best. No.1 Nature One
30th July - 1st August 2010 With names like Paul van Dyk, Paul Kalkbrenner, Carl Cox, Felix Kröcher & Deadmau5 is easy to see why this techno festival is number 1 on our list. Also it's Europes largest open-air electro-music festival with numbers of 62,000 + in 2009. Located at the US Missile base called "Pydna" it's easily accessible from Frankfurt-Hahn Airport which is only 20 minutes away from Pydna.
Ok so there's the best line-up in the world and the most like-minded electro-dancers possible are surrounding you, why else should you go to Nature-One ? It has 5 main areas each with a different theme; you can listen to live techno mixing at Century Circus or check out the Classic Terminal where you can hear the crackle of old vinyl. Other areas include Running Order, The Open Air Floor & House of House. Still not convinced ? Well it takes place over 2 days (not the classic 'in and out' 1 day operation) and 2 day tickets have never been more than €70, now that's value. The theme for Nature One 2010 is 'The Flag Keeps Flying'.
