When & Where The Dunmore-East-Bluegrass-Festival usually takes place on the last Thursday - Monday in August in the town of Dunmore East, County Waterford.
The next Bluegrass festival in Dunmore East is 25-28th August, 2010.
The festival has been organised every year since 1995 by Mick Daly, a promoter with an eclectic vision; mixing old-time country, bluegrass and futuristic newgrass acts. According to Mick “The festival has evolved organically in the last 15 years to become one of the most anticipated Bluegrass festivals in Europe.”
“With acts catering for the tastes of hardened roots music fans right through to those who just enjoy a great old style, toe – tappin’ tune, Dunmore East has something for everybody this year and it’s all free.”
What to expect There are usually more then 50 free events from the world’s best bluegrass acts. The pubs might be open a few hours later and there’s a great mix of traceoil (traditional Irish Music) and bluegrass anthems blaring through every snug and out of every shebeen. People travel from all over the world to listen and play at this Bluegrass festival.
Getting there Book a flight into Waterford (closest), Cork or Dublin Airport here or book a train to Waterford here. Then take a bus from Waterford via suirway.com bus company.
Where to stay Try to get accommodation in Dunmore East but it is a small village. Waterford (12kms away) has lots of great hostels, hotels & bed and breakfasts available to book here.
The Irish Bluegrass line-up 2009 included: Knotty Pine, Cotton Pickin’ Rodeo Clowns, Molly Hicks and Little Ass Birds amongst others. Local talent includes The Swingin’ Bluecats who bring a “big band” feel to the festival with this energetic six piece “suited and booted” in 1940’s retro style blue suits. Expect classics by legends such as Jackie Wilson, Bill Halley, Louis Jordan & many more.
