Bay to Breakers
When & Where The Bay to Breakers usually occurs around mid-May in San Francisco California. In 2010 the festival takes place on may 16th. Bay to Breakers 2010 is on May 16th. Eh..what is it? It's a 12 kilometer run in San Fran. There's also the SWA Costume Competition - people win prizes for dressing up or in some cases dressing down! Up to 80,000 people take place every year and since its inception this footrace has run every year. The event is flushed out over a couple of hours as runners are sorted into groups of corrals.
Bay-Breakers route From sea level at the Embarcadero the course rises steeply along Hayes Street Hill. Around the 2.5-mile mark runners climb an 11.15% grade between Fillmore and Steiner, bringing them to the highest point in the race, approximately 215 feet above sea level.
