When & Where Bastille Day is a French Festival of Independence is always on the 14th July best spent in Paris.
What to expect It doesn’t matter where you are for this festival because all of France is buzzing.
In Paris there’s a parade in the morning opened by a military department or expert show-boaters such as the Red Arrows. Then a party in the Palais de l'Elysée follows from the direction of the French President. The celebrations continue throughout the city and into the night with an amazing fireworks show.
History On 14th July 1790 there was a huge feast and an official event to celebrate the uprising of the short-lived constitutional monarchy in France and what people considered the happy conclusion of the French Revolution. This French festival took place on the Champ de Mars, outside Paris: now the site of the Eiffel Tower.Plan your fun this year with our Festivals Calendar 2012
